Dear Norchester Homeowners,

I am writing this letter and getting it delivered as quickly as possible to explain why our January 16, 2024, Annual Board Meeting and Election of Officers has been postponed. There are two reasons. As of last Friday, no one had offered to run. High Sierra Management (HSM) was late sending out the Annual Meeting Letters announcing the meeting, enclosing ballots, and information to homeowners about tossing their hats in the ring. I asked Sherri Carey about this on several occasions but never did receive a straight answer. The second reason is more worrying. Last Friday, January 5, 2024, I received a call from Sherri Carey that effective January 1, 2024, she had sold her company to Goodwin Management Company, and they would be taking over the NMF account effective February 1, 2024. The NMF account will be transferred to another company about which we know very little.

Dave Richards, Patsy Chin, Ertwyn Henry, Christy Anderson, and I (the current NMF Board) quickly realized that if Dave, Patsy, and I left the board next week, and somehow legally three new people were appointed, the NMF would be doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past (the new 2016 Board had 30 short days to find a new management company the very night they were elected). Fortunately, we found out in time to prevent such a thing.

The NMF must have an annual meeting every year, which traditionally has been held in January.

However, our Governing Bylaws do not designate a particular month for the meeting. Therefore, Dave, Patsy, and I, with Christy Anderson and Ertwyn Henry's concurrence, have agreed to stay on for the next three to six months until all is sorted, and we have qualified homeowners with a business background willing to run for the NMF Board. We now have a hefty reserve which must be managed; a clubhouse facility that can either be a blessing or a drain on our dues; now coupled with a management company that is driven, not in the best interests of the homeowners, but rather on the bottom line of their company.

There will be a board meeting this Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Norchester Clubhouse at 7:30 p.m. HSM and our management company representatives will not be invited to come. We will have a great deal of information to share as to what is needed, and we need your input. It has been a privilege and an honor to be the president of the NMF these past six years. I thought the fight was over once we were out of debt, had money in the bank, two deputies, and the 2024 budget was all done. I now realize that there is one last fight, and then I can go home and let the future handle the future. We now must fight the unseen force of an unknown management company, hoping that the NMF Board will be like all the others they just purchased – apathetic and uncaring. However, when there is a threat to our community, we come together, face it head on, and make sure we continue to survive and thrive. My cell # is 713-857-1993. Please call me if you have any comments, ideas, or suggestions. This is one meeting you cannot miss. If you cannot personally attend, we need at least 3-4 homeowners on each street who will attend and then spread the word. Together we can do this.

Message from HOA President Cathy Dunn regarding storm damage and repairs:

Good news! Norchester is getting back to normal after Thursday night's storm. Power and internet service have been restored to the entire subdivision. The Norchester clubhouse was spared any storm damage. Two truckloads of tree limbs and branches have been removed from the clubhouse grounds Part of the pool yard fence bordering the homes on Archmont was badly damaged and is in the process of being rebuilt. The tennis courts and basketball court are back in use. The pool will be open Wednesday, June 14th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Our Southwest Pool Management lifeguards have done heroic work bailing storm debris out of the pool itself and then thoroughly cleaning and treating the pool so the pool can open on its regular schedule

Storm Debris - What a mess! Norchester lost a number of trees in the storm last Thursday night. Fences were down, trees collided with roofs, and trees that did not topple lost a lot of their branches. Many Norchester residents were out in their yards right after the storm passed picking up the storm debris and getting it ready for trash pick-up that Saturday morning. On Saturday, Texas Pride, on its regular schedule, picked up bags and bags of pine needles, leaves and pine cones and bundles of branches neatly tied according to their trash guidelines. Also all of the recycling was collected. However, some residents still have a large amount of big tree limbs, tree branches and storm debris piled up in their front yards or at the curb. Texas Pride will pick up that debris, without extra charge, if the resident follows its guidelines. Here are the guidelines for storm debris. Storm debris should be bagged or placed in cans not exceeding 50 pounds. These bags or cans should be placed at the curb. Branches may not exceed 6” in diameter and should be placed in tied bundles measuring no more than 3' x 3' x 3' and weighing under 50 pounds. There is a limit of 8 bundles per service day. For residents with a large amount of storm trash, it may take several pick-up days to get it all removed. Recycling will be on Saturdays. Make sure you have all of your trash out by 7:00 a.m. If you know of a neighbor who has a large amount of storm debris and would have a great deal of trouble trying to cut it all up, and then bag it or tie it in bundles, would you please lend them a hand.

The storm came up unexpectedly, roared through the subdivision, and then left. As in the past, the neighbors came out after the storm passed, surveyed the damage, checked on their neighbors, lent a helping hand where needed, and got the subdivision back up on its feet. It is what we do in Norchester. As far as the NMF can determine, there were no injuries or fatalities caused during the storm. What a blessing!

The 2023 Annual Meeting was held on Jan. 17, 2023.  The following Directors were elected at this meeting. Congratulations to:

Dave Richards ( 1 yr term)

Christy Anderson ( 2 yr term)

Ertwyn Henry ( 2 yr term)
